The Water2Invest project is led by Utrecht University. The principle investigator is professor Marc Bierkens, who heads the group on Earth Surface Hydrology within the department of Physical Geography of the Faculty of Geosciences. Earth Surface Hydrology is concerned with the study on hydrological processes near and on the earth surface. One of the three major research themes is large scale hydrology. We use our in-house global hydrological model PCR-GLOBWB to study the role of climate variability on continental hydrology, on land-surface-atmosphere interaction, and on water scarcity and ground water depletion. PCR-GLOBWB is already widely used in various global or continental change analyses, such as the assessment of global nutrient dynamics, methane emissions, global water stress assessment, real-time global flood forecasting and global flood risk mapping.
